Virden - Mary Virginia Payne, 89 of Virden, IL passed away at 4:36 p.m. Saturday Feb. 5, 2011 at St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL.
Mary was born Nov. 17, 1921 in Drake, IL; a daughter of Ernest & Maude (Book) Crabtree. She married Leonard J. Payne Dec. 13, 1948 in Tunica, MS; he preceded in death Oct. 10, 1990. Also preceding was a grandson, Chad Payne and a brother, Harold Crabtree.
Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Virden, IL and a homemaker.
Mary is survived by sons, Marvin L. (Ruth Ann) Payne of Virden, IL and Lyndell L. (Caren) Payne of Thayer, IL; brothers, William E. Crabtree of Dover, OH, Donald "Jake" E. (Mary Ellen) Crabtree of Beardstown, IL; sister, Gertrude Bruce of Williamsville, IL; grandchildren; Meredith P. (Paul) Trost of Chicago, IL, LaTisha A. (Brian) Smith of Belleville, IL, Marcey L. Payne of Libertyville, IL, Lindsay M. Payne of Yorkville, IL, Megan L. Payne of Thayer, IL, and Andrew M. (Heather) Payne of Edwardsville, IL; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday Feb. 8, 2011 at the Calvert & Ferry Funeral Home, Virden, IL with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 9, 2011 at the First Baptist Church, Virden, IL the Rev. Gerald Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Virden Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Virden Rescue Squad or IL Valley Rehabilitation Center (Megan's workplace); Gillespie, IL. Marvin & Lyndell. I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. What a lovely/nice lady she was. I have fond memories of her when I worked at Payne. She was always kind to me. I know there will be another hole in your hearts and lives. I pray that good memories and the eternal love helps you during this time. You all will be in our prayers.
