The Illinois Stewardship Alliance (ISA) sent out a notice of Mr. Gebhart's passing. They shared the role that Paul played in helping to advance organic food production and the building of support for farmers large and small through the ISA. Having grown up in Christian county myself, I was glad to see someone who was nearly a neighbor being recognized for his life's work. To the surviving family members be proud of what he did for sustainability and farming as a vocation.

Paul's Family, May God grant His Peace and Comfort. I worked with Paul on various Illinois Farm Bureau committees. When our deliberations became long and tedious, I could count on Paul to ease the tension with his "Auctioneers Song". Often controversial, but we never doubted his sincerity or where he stood on an issue. His strong voice and deep thinking contributed balance to our decision making process. He exhibited great compassion for the young and disadvantaged as well.

Paul was good man with a strong connection to the earth. No pretenses or airs. He taught me that we are all stewards of the land. You were one of a kind.

So sad to hear of Paul Gebhart's passing. President of Illinois Stewardship Alliance while I was its Director, Paul did much good for the sustainable agriculture movement. Truly one of a kind down home on his organic farm, he will be greatly missed. Thinking about all the times you sang at other funerals,Paul, makes me guess God has you singing somewhere else. My sympathy to dear friends and family.
