Phyllis Behrends Obituary
HAVANA, IL - Phyllis June Behrends passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016, at the Havana Health Care Center at the age of 78, surrounded by family and loved ones.
She was born June 14, 1937, in Havana, to Mabel Wheelock and Sheldon Malone.
She grew up and lived in the Havana area her entire life, attending Riverview and Central Schools and graduating from Havana High School in 1955.
On Oct. 26, 1956, she married Lloyd Behrends at First Baptist Church in Havana. He survives.
From that union, of almost 60 years, they had five children: Tami (Rick) Davidage of Havana, Tony Behrends of Springfield, Teresa Link of Havana, Tara Behrends of Canton and Todd (Jamie) Behrends of Virginia, Ill. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Leslie Rivillo, James N. Walker, Jay Behrends, Adria Tobin, Morgan Rosenberger, Annie Link, Allison Behrends, and Nia Sanguedolce; and one great-grandson, Titus. Also surviving is one sister, Shella Lynn of Bloomington; three nieces: Christi Lynn, Carol Breedlove and Sally Miller; and three cousins: Pat Jacobs, Mike Malone and Jim Fred Bohm.
Phyllis was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Havana, where she was a Sunday School and VBS teacher for many years. She was involved with her children in 4-H and was a 23 year leader.
She served for many years on the Mason County Fair Board and was a Trustee of the Ridge Lake Fire District and also an election judge for Quiver Township.
She enjoyed family gatherings, listening to music and watching the Cubs play. She loved to read and she passed that love down to her children and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Wesley Reimnitz will officiate.
Burial will follow the services at Laurel Hills Cemetery in Havana.
Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Paul's Youth Group, or The Havana Public Library Improvement Fund.
Hurley Funeral Home in Havana is in charge of arrangements.
