Rosemarie Long Obituary

Rosemarie Long 1941 - 2021
Sherman, IL—Rosemarie Long, 79, of Sherman, passed away at 4:20 pm, Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Kindred Hospital in Peoria, IL. She was born July 11, 1941, in Springfield, to Jack B. and Stella M. (Sicilia) Feleccia. She married John "Jack" H. Long August 10, 1963.
Rosemarie is survived by her husband; two sons, Brad Long of Springfield and Brian (Lori) Long of Sherman; five grandchildren, Valerie Scheina, Anthony Long, Feleshia Long, Hayley Long, and Payton Long; three great-grandchildren, Cassidy Scheina, Bella Scheina and Bryleigh Rose Scheina; two sisters, Mary (Charles) Choate of Springfield and Betty Jo (Thomas) Blasko of Springfield; one brother, Thomas (Toni) Feleccia of Springfield; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Although she did not have a daughter she very much cared for her daughter in law.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Stella.
Rosemarie lived in Springfield for most of her life. She was the Sangamon County Republican Chair for 17 years. A position she thoroughly enjoyed and was blessed to have. She was passionate about politics and being involved with the public, always in their service. She was retired from the State of Illinois. She served in 2002 as the chairman of the World War II Memorial Fund-raiser, the 1997 Special Olympics fund raiser, served on the County Board representing District 10 from 1992 to 2010 and was the Vice Chairman of the Board from 2004 to 2010.
Those who knew Rosemarie, obviously knew of her love for Jack, but also another man by the name of Elvis. While those two were great loves of her life, she had much more to give. Her devotion to her family was unfailing and all of them knew her affection. She loved baking with the grandchildren and provided an annual meatball and pasta dinner for the Williamsville High School Softball team. When she was not baking with her family she loved playing a dice game with her siblings and in-laws.
Visitation: 4 - 7 pm, Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Mass: 11:30 am, Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at St. Aloysius Church with Reverend Clint Honkomp, O.P. officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
CDC Protocol shall be followed.
