Vincent E. Hermes 1925 - 2017
New Berlin, IL—Vincent E. Hermes, 92, of New Berlin, passed away at 2:52 p.m. on May 15, 2017 at Concordia Village.
Vince was born February 12, 1925 in Alexander, the son of William J. and Anna M. Ridder Hermes. He married Barbara "Bobbie" Keenan on February 16, 1953 in New Berlin.
Vince was a graduate of Routt High School. He proudly served in the United States Army (World War II) during the occupation of Japan. He was honored to be able to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in recognition of his service. Vince was a proud, lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus No. 4372 and the American Legion, where he had served on the Honor Guard. As a young man he enjoyed hunting and fishing. In later years he enjoyed having coffee daily with his friends and following Cardinals baseball.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leo and Francis Hermes; and two sisters, Leona M. Clancy and Genevieve Shultz.
Vince is survived by his wife, Bobbie Hermes of New Berlin; two sons, Phil (Lorie) Hermes of Fairbury and Joe (Amy) Hermes of Springfield; five grandchildren, Michael, Rachel, David, and Stephen Hermes, and Chloe (Colin) Grandlienard; brother, Fr. Joseph Hermes MM of California; sister, Dorothy Dierker of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 404 East Birch Street, New Berlin.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Kevin Laughery, celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 20, New Berlin, IL 62670 or Knights of Columbus #4372, 715 E. Illinois St., New Berlin, IL 62670.
Vince's family wishes to thank the staff of Concordia Village and St. John's Hospice for their exceptional care.
