Dixie Christoffersen Obituary

Santa, Idaho - Dixie J. Blacken (91), resident of Santa, Idaho, passed away on July 17, 2025, at her home. She was born to Herman and Barbara Brokofsky and joined her older sister Doris. Later, her brother Jim joined the family. The Brokofsky family wasn't together much longer after that as her mother developed pneumonia and passed away. Her father adopted out the 3 children to separate families, so seeing each other was rare. Dixie was then adopted by Howard and Della Craven when she was almost 2 years old. Dixie grew up in the Everett, WA area and went to Garfield grade school until her parents divorced. Sometime after, Della married Wilfred Williams and moved to Arlington WA where Dixie graduated from High School with the class of 1952. She worked during her last 2 years of high school at the local theater, a job she very much enjoyed. Following graduation, Dixie went to work at JC Penney Co. in Everett as a cashier. Times were different and this was when banks had the tubes to send back your change. It was then she met her first husband, Ray Christoffersen. They married in January 1955, and in May, Ray went to work at Shell Oil Company in Anacortes. The couple had 2 boys, Greg and Curt, and after a few years the family moved to Mt. Vernon where they stayed for 12 years. When the family moved from Mt. Vernon, they settled down in Conway, WA where they lived for 25 years. Ray passed away in 2009. Soon after, Dixie got a call from an old friend from school, and his name was Ray too! As it turns out, Ray Blacken and Dixie were married, and she moved to Santa, Idaho where she made her permanent home with him. Dixie loved the outdoors, and once she joined Ray in North Idaho, she enjoyed riding in the side by side, hunting with their hounds, and trapping wolves with him. She also loved to take walks on her property and care for her beautiful flowers.

Dixie is survived by her husband Ray at their home in Santa; son Greg (wife Rosalina) Christoffersen and son Curt Christoffersen; grandson Kyle Christoffersen; Ray's family members: Vicki Blacken, Lucinda VanValkenburg, Lynette Henek, Perry Blacken and too many others to list. Dixie is preceded in death by: her parents; her first husband Ray Christoffersen; sister Doris, and brother Jim; and Ray Blacken's daughters Laurin Blacken and Karen Cromwell. At Dixie's request, there will be no services, and she will be laid to rest at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in LaConner, WA. Sorry to hear this. We were neighbors in Mount Vernon and my kids loved her. Glad to know Dixie had a wonderful life. We'll be neighbors again some day at Pleasant Ridge.
