Donna Moore Obituary
Donna passed away at home, looking across the lake she loved on November 7, 2024.
Donna was born in Costa Mesa, California on April 14, 1935 to Lloyd and Lena Healton. After Lloyd's passing in 1936, her mother married Lou Winney and together they raised 10 children.
In 1955, Donna moved to Mt Vernon where she met and married Fred. They moved to Big Lake in 1957, raised three children, and were married for 53 years.
Donna was very active in Big Lake Fire Department, forming the fire department women's auxiliary and becoming a firefighter. She dedicated 20 years of service to the department and continued to be supporter.
Donna contributed to the community by volunteering at Big Lake Elementary; teaching fire safety, chaperoning field trips and in the classroom. She donated over 5 gallons of blood to the local blood bank. She loved feeding the hummingbirds and squirrels and watching the lake. She was a fan of the Mariners, Seahawks and Canadian Curling.
Donna was the host of the annual fireworks show. Began by Fred Sr, all three children became pyro-technicians - shooting the shows each year - which made Donna & Fred very proud. Donna insisted on hosting after the family's retirement from pyrotechnics. She loved watching the excitement.
Donna is survived by three children and their spouses - Fred Jr and wife Amy, Gary, Karen and husband Randy; two granddaughters: April Moore and husband Joshua Moore, and Amber Boersma and husband Ryan; and two great-grandchildren: Freddie Moore and Cora Boersma; sister Juanita Barron and dear family friend and BLFD Chief Brett Berg.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Fred, and six siblings.

We were blessed to have had Donna as our neighbour's for the past 11 years. When we first moved in we met with her and told us she was so happy to hear we had kids. She told our girls they could make as much noise as they wanted to because being at Big Lake was about having fun. We shared many cups of tea and long conversations. She always had amazing stories to tell. She was such a bright light. She loved her family and her hummingbirds and Big Lake.
We will miss her dearly.
