Henry Nyland Obituary

Bellingham - All people die, but not all people live. Henry lived! He loved his family, friends, woodworking but we all suspect he loved fishing more.

Henry passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025. He was born in Sumas, WA, the 3rd of 4 children, to William and Arendine Nyland. He attended Lynden Christian Schools, graduating from Nooksack Valley High School. During this time, he was "fixed up" with Shirley and the rest of that story is history. Soon after high school Henry received his draft notice and joined the Navy, serving his 3 years with the Seabees, including 13 months in Vietnam.

Upon discharge from the Navy, the couple moved back to the Northwest with their newborn daughter. They soon settled happily into civilian life. Shortly thereafter, their second daughter arrived to complete the family.

Henry then began a long career in the lumber & hardware business. After some months of training, he accepted a position with Copeland Lumber Yards in Burlington, WA, where he remained for many successful years.

In retirement, Henry enjoyed a good life, filled with friends and activities. Salmon fishing remained a favorite along with woodworking and gardening with Shirley.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; daughters Yvonne (Ross) and Wendy (Brandon), brothers Gary (Grace) and Fred (Nancy); sister Geraldine (predeceased), along with several nieces and nephews. We know he will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May Henry rest in peace and we hope he is catching the "big one".
