JAKE LAMPERS Obituary
On September 18, 2007, Jake Lampers, 87 of Oak Harbor, joined his wife Dorothy in Heaven. Jake and Dorothy had been married for 48 years when she left us in 1995.
Jake was born February 27, 1920 in Winnepeg, Alberta, Canada to Frank and Gertrude (Bowers) Lampers. At age five, Jake moved with his family to Oak Harbor.
Jake met Dorothy Jessie Bultman in Oak Harbor on October 18, 1946. He established the family farm adjacent to what is now Ault Field and raised turkeys for a number of years. The Navy would bring in blimps, and as they flew over, the turkeys would become very agitated. There was a large marsh area on the property and when it rained hard, the kids would find large collections of Indian arrowheads left from old hunting expeditions.
The Navy decided they needed more land and bought the Lampers farm. Jake purchased property at Hastie Lake Road and the State Highway and established a new farm. He and brother Cal developed a partnership and started Lampers Brothers Roofing Company. Cal eventually sold his share and Jake continued operating Lampers Roofing Company for most of his life. Jake was still doing roofs when he was seventy years old. He continued working his farm at Hastie Lake until the past few years.
Jake was raised in the Christian Reformed Church of Oak Harbor. He later became an active member of the San DeFuca Chapel. Jake was known for his kindness, spirit and generosity. He raised a large garden and would often deliver fresh corn to widows in the area.
Jake is survived by five children and their spouses: Sherilyn and Doug Poike of Burlington; Patty Preston of Mt. Vernon; Ron and Bette Anne Lampers of Snohomish; Don and Vicky Lampers of Everett and Ray and Deb Lampers of Snohomish. Two brothers, Cal Lampers of Olympia and Martin Lampers of Oak Harbor and sisters, Theresa Faber of Oak Harbor, Anne Vander Pol of Auburn, Gertrude Sullivan of Coupeville, Myrtle Balster of Oak Harbor, and Nell Donovan of Auburn. Twelve grandchildren also survive.
