JAMES GLEESON, PHD Obituary
Dr. James Newman Gleeson died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family in Anacortes, WA on August 31, 2017 at the age of 77.
Jimmy is survived by his wife Valerie Antoinette and their children Emily, Nico, Elena, Kyle, Christopher Leslie, Bianca and Roel; and their grandsons; Nathaniel, Ewan, Kellan and Béla Marcello.
Jimmy was born on March 30, 1940 in Louisville, KY to John and Tula (Huffines) Gleeson.
He graduated from University of Cincinnati in 1968 with a PhD in Physical Chemistry.
Jimmy raised his family in Naperville, IL where they lived until he and Valerie relocated to Washington State in 2005.
His family remembers him as funny and gregarious, a kind man who never met a stranger. Jimmy was an accomplished woodworker, gardener and hot rod enthusiast. He was a spiritual individual who loved asking questions and who was passionate about gaining empathy for the world around him.
Jimmy was an active and dedicated member of the Anacortes community and often volunteered at the Anacortes Art Fair and as a Salish Sea Steward.
A celebratory gathering of remembrance will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 4th, 2017 at the Skyline Beach Club, 6041 Sands Way, Anacortes, WA 98221. All are welcome at any time.

The family would like to thank all of the generous friends and neighbors who have graciously brought food and comfort over the past weeks.
Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory Inc., Anacortes and the San Juan Islands.

I fondly remember Jimmy when I was a Freshman in college. He was of a quick, alert mind and laughter, who loved old time rock & roll and dancing...Jimmy always lit up the scene while he was with us, and his glow will persist...

Jim was a very active member of the Northwest Corner Woodworkers Assn., serving for several years on the Education Committee. We enjoyed his input, and his eagerness to help his fellow woodworkers. More than that, he was a great friend, who always found time to visit with his friends. Dee and I will miss our woodworking & lunch buddy. Val and family, our best to all of you.
