JAMES LAM Obituary


James L. Lam died November 9, 2018 in Skagit Valley Hospital. He was born in Oak Harbor, WA to John and Velma Alice Balda.

He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1961. In 1962 his "Uncle" Joe Reinstra got him a job at Dunlap Towing, and, he retired without a break in service on February 29, 2008. He was a member of the Inlandboatmans Union of the Pacific; Masters, Mates and Pilots, and, the La Conner Volunteer Fire Department.

He married Mary Margaret O'Leary on September 7, 1963.

He is survived by his wife and children Mary Alice Duff (Edward) and James Hayden Lam (Corrine). Eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and, numerous nephews and nieces. Also by his brother John D. Lam (Barbara) and sister Susan Lam Brewer. Sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-law Sally and Herb Cram of La Conner and Patrick R. O'Leary and Joan of Bellflower, CA.

A special thanks to Bruce Cornwall who was with Jim as he lay dying so he had a friend to see him on his way. Dr. Ullom, Dr. Bruce, Dr. Kuan, Dr. Guanzon, and, the wonderful staff at DaVita Dialysis Center in Oak Harbor.

He was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother and Uncle. He was a good and humble man.

Memorials maybe made to the LaConner Volunteer Fire Department Fund.

Please accept my condolences at the passing of Jim. Reading his obituary brought back many fond memories.
There was one house between the Lam's and the Benson's. Even after the the Lam's moved, Velma, and my mother continued to get together for coffee.
