John will always be remembered as kind, generous, and joyful. His ability to make everyone he interacted with feel appreciated, admired, and uniquely special was a gift of his. He truly saw the good in people and I am so fortunate to have considered him my friend. John, my life will always be richer for the time I spent here with you! Blessings, my friend ~

When our niece, Heidi married John we were thrilled that such a wonderful guy had joined our family. He touched all of our lives with his happy, outgoing, sweet and interesting personality. John was taken too soon, but we feel privileged to have known and loved him. Our love, thoughts and prayers go out to Heidi, Johnny, Tessa, Eric and the Burke family. Aunt Linda will especially miss his big bear hugs! We will never forget him.

Memories of grade school and high school are intertwined with John; I cannot have one without the other. My heart sank when learning of John's death. During our time at Allen Elementary, a few of us, including John and I, formed the "problem solvers." We would look for those in conflict at recess and attempt to mediate their dispute. I knew John entered the legal system as an attorney and realized his true heart to fix what had gone wrong never went away. The "problem solvers" group ended too soon....much like John's life.

As a neighbor we watched Johnny grow up with his brother and sister. They were all great kids, Johnny was alway Polite and respectful. If there was ever a book on how to live your life it would be titled "Johnny T. Burke"

I knew John from BEHS but as most high school friendships go we set off into the world and did not stay in touch. Reading his obituary, I think we would have been good friends if we had. I wish I would have known him as an adult, I would have loved to talk Star Wars with him and his son. My thoughts and prayers are with his family in what must be an impossible time. Pints in your honor, sláinte.

I first met John when we served on the Skagit County Board of Equalization together. He had a quick wit and an easy way about him, and soon we became great friends. His knowledge and expertise were invaluable to me, and I always looked forward to seeing him at our weekly hearings. I will miss him dearly. My sincere condolences as well as my thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

An infectious smile, contagious laugh and genuine soul. I am forever grateful for his help with dad when he was sick. We wanted so badly to give dad some normalcy after being diagnosed with cancer and a BIG part of who he was were his clients, his work family and helping others. John helped us give that to dad by being there every day to work side by side with him until he grew too tired to continue. John was a big part of dad's office family and I know it was as difficult for him as it was for us but he was at his side every day. John made an incredibly difficult time a little easier to navigate just by being John. He will forever be in our hearts and a part of our extended family. Thank you for sharing him with us. Sending our deepest condolences to all of you, may you find some comfort in the stories from those he touched.

I met John on move-in day of our freshman year at PLU. I was very much a nervous, fish-out-of-water farm kid from eastern Washington. John, on the other hand, was clearly in his element and went out of his way to make me feel at home. Endlessly cheerful and boisterous, he immediately became one of my closest friends. He made a lot of new friends that day.
A gentle soul and a truly good person, you are gone too soon. Every pint I raise will be in your honor.
My deepest sympathies to Heidi, their children, and to the rest of his family.

On June 5th 1980 John made me a proud aunt!
I remember taking my vacation to go visit my nephew in a Grand Rapids Michigan and in Houston Texas. You were our ring bearer in 1984. I have loved you from the moment your parents were excepting you and will love you with found memories of you growing up to be the best son nephew cousin brother husband father friend and lawyer. Your time here on earth was too short but you lived your life to the fullest.
Forever in our memories and in our hearts. I will miss you and your bear hugs. RIP Until we meet again. Love Aunt Cindi and Uncle Bob and cousin Ashley.

Many years ago, Dad and I dropped in unexpectedly at the Elliott Johnson legal office and John cheerfully cleared his schedule to compose a complete set of documents for him to sign. At this difficult time, John was nothing short of miraculous in his thorough work, kindness and gentlemanly respect for Dad. I have always been grateful for John's calm confidence in so beautifully handling our visit. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for his loss.
