Kathleen Hoose Obituary

Burlington - Mrs. Kathleen Hoose, 84, a resident of Washington state since 2004, passed away in Mount Vernon on Thursday, May 1, 2025. She was born on September 22, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, to Henry H. Arp and Elizabeth M. Powles. She attended and graduated from John Muir High School in Pasadena, California.

Kathleen met and married Nelson Hoose, of Altadena, California, while both were ice skating at the Pasadena Winter Garden skating rink. The couple married in 1958, and Kathleen had the honor of being named Miss Crown City of Pasadena in 1959. They had two children and raised their family in Los Angeles County, until the family relocated to Escondido, California, in 1970.

Kathleen was a homemaker for many years, but later when the children were older, she worked in the Arbitration Department of the Superior Court of Vista, California, earning a Service Award from the County of San Diego in recognition of her devotion, dedication and continuous service to the people and the County of San Diego. She later put her skills to work as an Office Manager for the Judicial Arbitration Mediation Services (JAMS) in Carlsbad, California.

Kathleen and Nelson both had a love of music, and Kathleen loved to sing with Nelson's piano playing before he passed away. The couple often enjoyed attending local musical events together. Kathleen was known to her family, friends, neighbors and fellow church members as joyful, helpful, and always willing to serve and to make others feel welcome and important. She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends as a loving mother and friend. She also was suspected of being an emerging pool shark in the billiards room of her new residential community before she passed.

Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Robbin Crandall of Burlington, Washington, her son, Brian Hoose of Powell, Tennessee, two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, as well as her brother, James Arp of Hillsboro, Oregon.

There will be no formal funeral service. Although not required, donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to The First Church of Christ, Scientist, 725 N. 6th Street, Mount Vernon, Washington, 98273. You may share memories of Kathleen with her family online at www.kernfuneralhome.com.
