Lee Moores Obituary

Stanwood - Lee Spencer Moores, a resident of Stanwood, WA, age 87, passed away, Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, in Mount Vernon, WA. He was born June 28, 1937 in Mount Vernon to Clair and Lois (Booher) Moores.

He attended schools in Mount Vernon, graduating with honors from Mount Vernon High School. He graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1960. While attending the University of Southern California he earned his Master of Science, Systems Management, in 1978.

Lee began his military career being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force in 1960, graduating from pilot training in 1961. In August of that same year, he married Patricia Anne Warrick. Lee served from 1960 through 1982, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He and his growing family moved many times to duty stations in Germany and the U.S. He served primarily as a C-130 Command Pilot, Tactical Airlift, including two tours during the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross - the Air Force's highest award for aerial achievement and numerous other l decorations and citations including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with Bronze Star, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Service Stars.

In Lee's post military career, he trained military C-130 pilots for Lockheed Martin as a Pilot Instructor on C-130 aircrew simulator training systems from 1984 until 2011.

Most important in Lee's life was his family. He loved going to the Mount Vernon Highland Games and the town's annual 4th of July fireworks show. He was the biggest fan of his grandchildren's sporting events. He also enjoyed maintaining the family farm property in Mount Vernon, as well as meeting fellow veterans at the VFW for coffee, assembling puzzles, and sampling single malt Scotch. He also regularly participated in Veterans Day parades in Auburn, WA.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Anne Moores of Stanwood; son, Christopher and his wife Karen Moores of Snohomish, WA; his grandsons, Colton and Carter Moores; daughter, Melanie and her husband Daniel Coon of Bothell, WA; and his granddaughter, Audrey Coon.

Memorials may be donated to Home for Our Troops or, The American Cancer Association.

A funeral service for Lee Moores will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 21, 2025 at First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon with Pastor Christopher Gudger-Raines officiating.
