Marilyn Frey Obituary

Bellevue - On Friday, November 13, 2020, Marilyn Alice Frey, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully of natural causes at age 87. She was a resident of Serenity Assisted Living in Bellevue, Washington

Marilyn was born on April 30, 1933, on San Juan Island to Roy and Mary Gresli. After graduating from Friday Harbor High School, Marilyn attended Western Washington State College (now WWU) in Bellingham, Washington, where she met her future husband, Stanley Frey.

Married on November 21, 1952, Stanley and Marilyn raised four children in the Redmond area. Stan, a residential home builder, provided plentiful opportunities for Marilyn to hone her design skills by helping with the homes' interiors. In 1994, Marilyn and Stan moved to Shelter Bay, just outside the picturesque town of La Conner, Washington. The house was Marilyn's dream, with its expansive western view overlooking northern Puget Sound, not far from where she was born.

Marilyn was an active member of both the Redmond Methodist Church and La Conner Methodist Church. A lifelong boating enthusiast, she traveled with friends and family up the coast into Canada on many occasions. She was an enthusiastic supporter of her community, participating in the Redmond March of Dimes and Girl Scouts, and establishing the La Conner Food Bank. Marilyn and Stanley were also avid dancers and were leaders of Bellevue Gyro, an international friendship club. Known for her artistic skills, Marilyn also worked for many years at the Vintage Art Gallery in La Conner.

A loving and devoted mother, sister and grandmother, Marilyn frequently drove from La Conner to attend her grandchildren's dance recitals, soccer games, birthday parties and other activities. She is survived by her husband Stanley, four children: Larry Frey, Rick Frey, Patti (Steve) Benjamin and Steve (Sarah) Frey as well her sister, Linda (Al) Tuck, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Marilyn leaves behind countless friends and acquaintances who cherished her quick smile, selfless, energetic personality and love of life. She will live in the hearts of many forever.

Marilyn Frey's memorial service is scheduled for 2pm, Saturday, July 31st at Redmond United Methodist Church. We encourage you to visit https://stevejames-frey.wixsite.com/marilynfrey if you would like to post a message or view the service virtually.

For many years, Marilyn attended our Friday Morning Women's Bible Study in Shelter Bay. She had a simple, child-like faith and trust in Jesus that was so refreshing! Of course, she often had us laughing, not taking things too seriously. But she also shared her struggles and we were inspired by her resilience and optimism. She was a dear friend and she will always hold a special place in my heart.
This is a poem that she had written and shared with us in 2014..
'I want to be free
just God and me
walking the beach
and smelling the sea.

No problems, no worries
no grief, no pain.
Just the joy of the sun
and a little bit of rain.

Would I be lonely?
Would I be blue?
Would I be bored
with nothing to do?

No-o-o!

Let me try it for a short while
then I'll go home
and smile, smile, smile!'
