PAUL FRANULOVICH Obituary

Paul "PF" Franulovich, 73, of Anacortes, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, October 19, 2008 at Island Hospital. He was surrounded by the family and friends that he loved so deeply.

Paul was a generous man who lived his entire life to its fullest, always with love, laughter, passion, and honesty.
Paul was born on November 8, 1934 in Vela Luka, Croatia, being the third of four children of Katherine and Paval Franulovich.

He lived in Caracus, Venezuela for three years before moving to Anacortes in 1949, where he resided for fifty nine years.

Paul was a 1952 graduate of Anacortes High School and proudly served in the United States Army during the Lebanon crisis in the early sixties.

Paul attended Western Washington University and Stanford University and enjoyed his career as a fisherman and pipefitter.

He always looked forward to spring, when he would prepare for the trip to Alaska to work the fishing season on a purse seiner in Kodiak and Southeast Alaska. Paul often spoke fondly of the years spent working at PM Northwest, Brown and Root, and with the Alaskan Pipeline.

Paul married Bertha Greenwald in 1962 at Sacred Heart Church in La Conner, sharing many special years and memories raising their only daughter, Tina. One could say that the only time he was happier was when his grandchildren were born, Clare Marie Martin, and Ava Katherine Martin. Whenever Clare or Ava arrived in Paul's home, his eyes would light up as the girls ran into "Papa's" arms.

Bertha, Tina and son-in-law, Steve, along with their two daughters, will miss Paul very deeply.

Paul could often be found at his favorite hangout, sharing coffee with friends at Gere-a-Deli and talking with special friend, Laurie, who brought such joy into his life. All knew, however, to never stop by or call on a Saturday afternoon, a time reserved for watching college football.

Paul's commitment to St. Mary Catholic Church was just as apparent and he enjoyed many years of faithful participation at the church he loved so deeply.

Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Franulovich; step-mother, Anna Franulovich; and brother-in-law, Stanley Stambuk.

Family was so important to Paul and he is survived by many loving relatives, his father, Paval Franulovich of Anacortes; brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Lorna Franulovich of Bayview; brother, Rudy Franulovich and partner, Shelly of Ketchikan; sister, Miloyka Stambuk of Anacortes; loving godchildren, Deanna Hagg, Joseph Teplicky, and Aaron Annette, along with many caring nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes. It is only fitting that Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 23, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 24, 2008 at St. Mary Catholic Church, followed by a reception at the church.

Memorials may be made to The Friends of the Forest, something very dear to Paul's heart.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands. To share memories of Paul, please sign the online guest register at www.evanschapel.com.

We were so sorry to hear of your loss.
Paul was a wonderful friend and co-worker having worked together at Shell Oil Refinery for many, many years.
We remember his great sense of humor and delightful conversation. A memory we haven't forgotten was the enjoyable trip to Mexico with Bertha and Paul many years ago.
Please accept our condolences, Paul will be missed in this world, however, will be received into heaven with open arms, awaiting us all.

I will never forget Paul. I am married to his cousin Albie, and I remember when I was dating Albie he would always tease me about being a tarheel from Sedro Woolley, relentlessly. And I enjoyed it. When I married Albie and we had our only daughter he would hold her and bounce her on his lap and sing to her, of course in words we couldn't understand but she loved it. We will miss you my friend. Love ya as always Albie, Lisa and Steve Jo Robison

When I hired into the Shell Anacortes Refinery Paul greeted me as one of his official "little buddie's". He also taught me more that I can say in this note about how to work safely in a refinery and the importance of every individuals contritbution to Refinery production. His strength, work ethic and sense of humor were legendary. I am now working at the Salt Lake City refinery but have referenced Paul's work many times over my career. I am sorry to hear of his passing and will always remember him fondly as a great co-worker and friend. Dan
