Randy Rudnick Obituary

MtVernon - Obituary

Randy Stephen Rudnick was born August 25, 1951 in Huntington NY and passed away peacefully on January 9, 2024 in Mount Vernon.

He comes from a close family and spent his life creating his own, comprised of both family and friends. He is survived by his two children, Dylan (Rebecca) and Josie; his three (soon to be four) grandchildren, Connor, Kyanna, Benjamin, and Oliver; his four brothers, Robert (Anne) , Michael (Ann), Kenneth, and Peter (Heide); as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and longtime close friends.

He moved to Skagit County in the early 1970's. He had various jobs over the years starting with driving a pea viner. He spent many years working at Bayliner Boats, had aspirations to own a video store, and had a large knowledge of car parts from the several jobs he had selling them.

However, Randy's favorite job was his last; driving a school bus. He loved interacting with the children. Even before raising his own, he was the kind of person other children were drawn to due to his kindness and generosity.

Randy embraced a Buddhist life philosophy of chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo which enabled him to share hope, courage, and confidence with the people surrounding him. He had a large heart and a sincere seeking spirit. He would have in depth, life changing conversations with anyone he came across; even someone he bumped into by chance while out and about.

Randy was a unique individual. He was a collector of many things. He liked to spend time fishing on the Skagit River, growing vegetables, and making home-made brew. Movies and music, especially classical music, were another of Randy's passions, and many a day later in life he would conduct an orchestra from his favorite armchair with a can of Diet Dr. Pepper.

At one time, while traveling, Randy lost his wallet. Soon after that he was pulled over by a police officer. When asked for his ID, he said he had lost his wallet. The officer said " How can you identify yourself?". Randy pulled over his side view mirror and said " Yup, It's me". There are so many times he had us in hysterics. He was a wonderful person and he will be missed by all of us

Randy was an unforgettable friend with whom we shared Nichiren Buddhism. He made sure to remind us all that this Buddhism was the endless source of hope. Our hearts are with his family and other friends. He was one of a kind.
