Robert (Bob) Klensch Seidel, left this earthly life on December 1, 2010 in Anacortes, and went to be with his Lord.
He was born on May 24, 1913 in Los Angeles, California, to Arthur Paul and Elizabeth Magdelen Seidel. He attended schools there, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1931.
Bob met Virginia Dare Smith in 1934 when both participated in an operetta at her church. She was attending UCLA and he studied at Cal Tech in Pasadena, graduating in 1935 as a Mechanical Engineer. They were married in 1937 and set up housekeeping in Pomona, CA where Bob got a job at the Pomona Pump Co. Their church was an important part of their lives, and Bob soon found ways to serve. During their time in Pomona they had two children, Elizabeth Lee Jaques and Robert Wayne Seidel who died in 1994.
Bob also worked for Fairbanks Morse and Johnson Pump Co. Upon his retirement in 1978 Bob and Virginia began spending many happy days traveling the western states in their little pickup and trailer, seeing the sights, fishing and looking for new birds.
Virginia died shortly before their 60th wedding anniversary.
Bob enjoyed HO model railroading, woodworking, clock repair and crossword and Sudoku puzzles. After living his entire life in Southern California he moved to Anacortes in 2000 to be near his daughter and extended family. The next year he moved into an apartment at Chandler's Square. There he made many new friends and it was his practice to look for ways to help them. He could regularly be seen walking around town to keep up with what was happening.
At Anacortes First Baptist Church he sang in the choir and served as Treasurer for a seniors group.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Beth), her husband Don and 3 grandchildren, Tracy Raymond, husband Ken and great-grandchildren Kimberly and Brian, Suzanne Martin, husband Jeff and great-grandchildren Landon and Evan, and Donald Jaques Jr., wife Ann and great-grandchildren Bethany and Ryan; and daughter-in-law Dolores Seidel.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Anacortes First Baptist Church. Those who attend are encouraged to wear bright colors as is fitting for a celebration.
Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Anacortes, WA. Share memories of Bob and sign the online guest register at
