ROBERT H. "BOB" YOUNG SFC, ARMY (RET.)

Robert H. Young, 89, of Anacortes, passed peacefully on December 19, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on November 20, 1928, in Los Angeles, CA; the son of Stewart and Elizabeth Young. Following High School, Robert served in the US Army as a Tank Sergeant with the 2nd Armored Division.

He met the love of his life, Donna Lee Benedict in Centralia, WA and they married on November 29, 1953. Together they had three daughters.

Robert spent many years working in construction, paving and building municipal infrastructure either as a Project Manager, Superintendent or Heavy Equipment Operator.

Over the years, he was employed by: Snelson Anvil, Peter Kiewitt, Eugene Sand & Gravel, Eerkes Construction and McKenzie Sand and Gravel and Westinghouse, Saudi Arabia. Robert was a member of Local Operating Engineers 302 & 701.

His hobbies and favorite past-times included: wood-working, gardening, listening to Big Band Music and Johnny Cash, watching Western movies, and reading. An avid outdoorsman, he loved wildlife hunting of duck, deer, elk and bear, and he was an avid fisherman. He thoroughly loved spending time with his grandkids, family and friends.

Bob was the guy on the block that always had a tool to loan or would help others with anything that needed fixing.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved wife Donna of 53 years.

He is survived by his daughters: Paige Young Berrigan, Tracie Anderson & Leslie Young Kramer; 9 grandchildren: John Kramer, Kathryn Kramer, Breeanne Chapman and (Mathew Chapman), Cameron Anderson, (Kayla Lively), Lindsey Berrigan and Devon Romero and (Michael Romero) along with seven great-grandchildren. Robert is also survived by 6 siblings: Dorothy Driggers, Beverly Whitcomb, Lee Young, Mel Young, Sharon Garda, and Patricia Matthews.

Private Family Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at Fernhill Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life, Memorial Service will be held at The Bridge Christian Fellowship, in Oak Harbor, WA at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2017.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel of Anacortes, WA.
