TERRY MCKEAN Obituary

KEEP ON "GILLNETTING"

Terry, 75, passed away Monday afternoon, April 20, 2015 at Harborview Medical Center after surgery for an abdominal aortic aneurism. Born to Marie and Felix McKean on Dec. 11, 1939 at Rowley General Hospital in Mt. Vernon, WA, he would be the middle of five brothers.

Terry had a very strong work ethic, picking strawberries, working on the family and other farms and later worked at local grocery stores. He graduated from Twin City High in 1958.

He was in the grocery industry under the banner of Thrifty Foods for over 40 years, earning numerous awards and "Manager of the Year" on several occasions. He was also pursuing his dream of commercial fishing, here and in Alaska, mostly south of Ketchikan.

After retirement in 1996, he fished full summers up north with his wife Joan, whom he lovingly called the "Skipper", just the two of them, the Full Crew!! Fall & winters were spent commercial crabbing. He really enjoyed it, especially when the pots were full of "Keepers". There are also all the hunting stories; but you know, maybe another time, in another life.

Terry enjoyed working around our home, some traveling, sport crabbing and prawning, playing poker and pinochle, but most of all, talking about his history from the Stanwood area.

He was predeceased by his parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

Survivors include his wife of 46 ½ years Joan; son Jeff; daughter Melissa; grandson Clint; granddaughter Taylor; and great grand-daughter Kyleigh. Also four brothers Dale (Penny), Gary (Irmgard), Wayne (Chris), and Mike (Julie). Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and last, but not least, a host of valued friends.

A "Celebration of Life" for Terry will be May 16, 2015 at the Stanwood F.O.E. Eagles Club from 1-4pm. Terry's family would enjoy sharing special stories with all of you. Come and share remembrances.

Terry was a "Super-Awesome" Guy. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him!!! You were one hell of a "Deck-Boss".

Suggested Memorial donations to the Stanwood Eagles #3041 or Stanwood American Legion, Frank Hancock Post 92.

Hey brother Terry, hope in Heaven you're not in the middle of the COVID pandemic. In isolation on Earth, I'm researching a new poker game. When I join you, we'll play a few hands. You're always in my thoughts.

Terry you and I marched to a different Drummer, but the results were both the same. I am proud of what you accomplished in life. You were loved by all and will be remembered for your humor and willingness to help other. We did a lot together when we were young and maybe not so much when we were older, but they were meaningful events. I have many wonderful memories of you and will always remember them. You had the love for your family and yours and Joan's love was what they call soul mates. Until we meet again. Love your brother.

My brother Terry's work ethic was above reproach. Yes, he could be a "character," but he was genuine. When I visited him Easter weekend in the hospital, upon leaving I gave him one final kiss, realizing I probably wouldn't see him again. Indeed, Terry was special.

They broke the mold when they made this guy. What a great friend to have for so many years. He will be missed greatly but our memories will always be "super awesome".
