VALERIE JENSEN Obituary

STANWOOD WA - Valerie Anne Jensen, age 87, passed away Friday, April 18, 2025, in Stanwood WA. She was born to John and Dorothy (Benham) Squance in Warsaw, Alberta, Canada.

Valerie graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1960. She worked in the public health field in Digby, Nova Scotia, Alameda County, CA, Pierce County, WA and finally for 19 years with the Skagit County Public Health Department, WA. Valerie lived a life of service in her personal life as well. She volunteered in the public schools of Mt. Vernon, and within her faith community, first at Trinity Lutheran Church and then later at Salem Lutheran Church, both in Mt. Vernon, WA.

She is survived by son Brian Jensen of Olympia; daughter Leslie (Jensen) Miller of Stanwood, grandson Elijah, sisters Fay (Paul) Richardson of Stanwood, WA; Lynda Halbert and Beth (Allen) Haythorne of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; as well as nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Jensen, parents and her brother and sister-in-law David and Mary Squance.

She wanted any gifts in her honor to be given to a local shelter serving people experiencing homelessness or to a local food bank.
