Tullio Zingone Obituary

Tullio Zingone, 85, of San Mateo, CA, passed away suddenly on February 25, 2025. Born on September 2, 1939, in Montalto Uffugo, Calabria, Italy, Tullio pursued his passion for the culinary arts, traveling through Europe to master his craft as a chef. He loved sharing stories of growing up in Italy and his journeys through Germany, Switzerland, the Bahamas, and eventually California, where he not only continued his career but also met his beloved wife, Vitina. They married in 1969 in Oakland and built a beautiful life together after settling in San Mateo raising their two children, Raffaele and Marisa.

Tullio was known not only for his deep love for his family but also for his vast vegetable garden, incredible cooking talents, and devotion to all things Italian. He found great joy in bocce ball, winemaking, and playing cards with friends. His warmth, generosity, and passion for cooking brought happiness to many, both in his professional career and in the homes of those fortunate enough to share a meal with him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vitina, his children, Raffaele and Marisa, and his cherished grandchildren, Amelie, Giancarlo, and Allegra. He also leaves behind family in Florida, Canada, Argentina, and Italy, along with a host of dear friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.

Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 2715 Hacienda Ave., San Mateo, CA on Monday, March 17, 2025.  Viewing 9:30-10 a.m., Rosary Mass 10-11 a.m., Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd. Hayward, CA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tullio's memory to the American Heart Association

Tullio's legacy of love, laughter, food, wine and friendship will live on in all who knew him. May he be at peace in eternal rest in the arms of the angels.

Chef Tullio was my Chef during a three year Culinary Apprenticeship at the SFO Airport Hilton Hotel. A mentor to me who was an Old School Chef.
Chef Tullio was Certified with the American Culinary Federation and was a member of the Chef´s Association of the Pacific Coast. He also was one of the Chef Judges for the San Mateo County Hotel and Restaurant Culinary Apprenticeship Program in which I graduated in 1985.
Chef Tullio instilled in me the skills and knowledge that I needed to be a certified professional chef.
The Hilton was a great place for me to learn and Prepared me for a successful career. Chef Tullio wanted me to move on from the Hilton Hotel to see and learn new skills in other parts of the food industry!
He would be proud to know that I´m still cooking after all these years, a career that has taken me from Country Clubs to the Airline Industry to Corporate Dining in which I have found my niche in for the past 30 years.
Thank you Chef Tullio
Cheers
