Kristine Zingone (née Basciano) of
Chatham, NJ died peacefully on February 18th at the age of 57 after a two-year illness. Kris lived a life full of love, family, friendship, and faith. She was a warm, caring, and outgoing person that could develop strong relationships with most anyone she met. Kris considered herself blessed and was thankful for all the good in her life. She faced a difficult medical diagnosis but was determined to write a different story in her journey with cancer. Her narrative featured her unwavering positivity, was free of sorrow and was a testament to her strength and belief.
Kristine was born to Marie and the late Joseph Basciano of Wood-Ridge, NJ, where she grew up the daughter of her town's police chief. The youngest of three siblings, Kris graduated from Paramus Catholic High School and the University of Scranton. After college, Kris joined Time Inc. Her dedication and uncompromising organizational skills were recognized as she rose to the role of makeup chief for Time magazine. She worked closely with the chief editor on late deadlines to ensure the weekly magazine was on newsstands for its readers. Married in the days after September 11th, Kris vowed never to be far from her family and chose to retire from publishing and to excel at motherhood.
Kris met her husband, Ralph, on a snowy night in New York City during a set-up camouflaged as a group happy hour. They married in September 2001 to prove the adage "opposites attract." She ultimately called Chatham home and is where she raised her two wonderful children who love her dearly. Kris was so proud of Marianna and Joseph and was their strongest advocate. In Chatham, Kris worked as a teaching assistant at Chatham Methodist Preschool, volunteered as a Sunday School instructor at St. Patrick's Church, and was an active volunteer at the Chatham Community Food Distribution each Wednesday. Her true passion was the home garden that she raised and nurtured with her characteristic attention to detail. Kris loved sharing her knowledge of gardening with friends and sharing photos of her blooms as an aspiring floral media influencer.
Kris is predeceased by her father, Joseph ("Pep") Basciano, and survived by her mother, Marie. She is survived by her husband, Raffaele, her loving children, Marianna and Joseph, her sister, Lisa (Rick) Angelillo, her brother, Vincent (Tanya) Basciano, her nieces and nephews, Aimee, Abbie, Nicholas, Adam, Corey, William, and Grace. Kris is also survived by her in-laws, Angelo and Maria Zingone, and her sister-in-law, Rosa (Michael) Scalzo. Kris leaves behind countless friends and family who were always by her side and encouraged and inspired her these last two years.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday, February 23rd from 2-6pm at Wm A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home (345 Main St,
Chatham, NJ). Her funeral mass will be celebrated at St Patrick's Church on Monday, February 24th at 10am, (85 Washington Avenue in Chatham). Interment will be private.
