Gerald W. Vargas

1938 - 2021

Gerald W. Vargas, 83, of 127 Hemlock Road, St. Marys, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Penn Highlands Elk.
He was born August 17, 1938, in Penfield, son of the late John and Marian Zelinski Vargas, Sr. Gerald was a lifelong resident of the area and was a graduate of Penfield High School, Class of 1956. He was a retired employee of Speer Carbon, retiring after 45 years of service.
On August 17, 1963, in the Sacred Heart Church, Gerald married Nancy Supon, who survives. Also surviving are his three sons: Douglas Vargas of DuBois, Robert Vargas and his wife Andrea of Camden, Tennessee, and David Vargas and his wife Kathy of Weedville; five grandchildren, Amber, Kristen, Hunter, AnnMarie, and Natalie; three sisters: Shirley Vargas, Peggy Mitchell, and Rose Morelli; and by one brother, Thomas Vargas.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by a brother, John Vargas, Jr. Gerald was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of the St. Marys Sportsmen's Club and he enjoyed gardening and hunting and fishing with his sons. Most of all, Gerald enjoyed spending time with his family, and he especially loved his grandchildren. There will be no visitation. Funeral and committal services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
