Joseph Francis Kronenwetter

Joseph Francis Kronenwetter, 86, formerly of Raleigh, N.C., died peacefully Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 in Charlotte, N.C.
He was born Sept. 21, 1929 in St. Marys, the son of the late Herman and Delores Fritz Kronenwetter.
He began his military career in the U.S. Army at the age of 18 and retired as a Master Sergeant after 23 years of proudly serving his country. His career included tours of duty in Korea and Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he began a second career as office manager for David G. Allen Tile Company in Raleigh, N.C.
Known as "Pops" by his grandchildren, he was family-centered and a devoted Christian, who was a longtime member of Saint Raphael Catholic Church. Joe appreciated the simple pleasures of life including camping, gardening and fishing. Joe served his community throughout his life through extensive involvement in many charitable organizations including his church and Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.
Joe was preceded in death by Betty Sue, his loving wife of 38 years and his siblings, Grace Marie, Howard, Norman, and Richard.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, William and Penny of Charlotte, N.C., Stephen and Penney of Southport, N.C., Eric and Betty Gail of Whiteville, N.C., and Jeffery and Tammy of Arnold, Md.; 11 grandchildren, Rian, Tyler, Kelly, William Jr., Katie, Zach, Christopher, Jessica, Dennis, Joey, Bryce; one great-grandchild, Brantley; his brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Patricia of Pennsylvania; and sisters-in-law Sandra Kronenwetter, Nancy Kronenwetter and Betty Safrit.
A funeral mass for Joseph Francis Kronenwetter will be held Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. at Saint Raphael Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of Neuse Rd., Raleigh, N.C. A reception at the church will follow, and graveside service at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens, 770 Stadium Dr., Wake Forest, N.C. immediately after at 2 p.m.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the church until the time of the mass at 11 a.m.
