Vernon Weaver Obituary

Vernon Joseph "Joe" Weaver, 70, of Grafton, WV, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Monday, January 27, 2025 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born in Brownsville, PA on May 14, 1955, the son of Clarence "Jim" and Isabelle (Kettle) Weaver, of Glen Hazel, PA.
His life was marked by unwavering dedication to his family and country. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp. on the crash crew at the Marine Corp. Naval Base in Yuma, AZ. Following his military service, he along with his parents owned and operated Weaver's Inn, in Glen Hazel, PA. He then joined the Army Corp. of Engineers where he worked first at the East Branch Dam in Glen Hazel, Pennsylvania, then worked at the Tygart Dam in Grafton, WV until his retirement.
As a young man, Joe obtained the status of Eagle Scout and enjoyed being the Boy Scout Troop 6 leader in Grafton, WV, for several years. He and his wife, Gay, also owned and operated their business "Carved in Stone" for 22 years in the WV area.
Joe had what is referred to as the "gift of gab" which he used extensively throughout his life and especially with his business acquaintances. He also enjoyed watching sports with family and friends along with the challenge of card games, including Blackjack and Poker or a good game of pool.
In addition to his parents Joe was preceded in death by his wife Gay, whom he loved and missed daily since her passing; and his brother Tom.
Joe is survived by his son Jim Weaver of Grafton; his sisters: Clarissa and Mary; his brothers: Dan and Mark; as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Joe's wishes for cremation were honored and no public services will be held at this time.
The Weaver: My life is but a weaving, between the Lord and me. I cannot choose the colors; He weaves so steadily. Oftentimes he weaveth sorrow and I in foolish pride, forget he sees the upper, and I the underside. Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly, will God roll back the canvas and explain the reason why. The dark threads are as needful in the Weaver's skillful hand as the threads of gold and silver in the pattern he has planned. -B.M. Franklin
