Zita E. Carino

1923 - 2022

Zita E. Carino, 99, of Chardon, OH, formerly of Rock Street, St. Marys, passed away after living a full life, Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Maplewood at Chardon.
She was born August 30, 1923, in St. Marys, daughter of the late Frank and Ann Caskey Leithner. Zita was a lifelong resident of the area until the age of 94 when she moved to Ohio to be closer to her family. She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1941.
On November 21, 1944, Zita married Frank S. Carino, who preceded her in death on December 31, 1992.
She is survived by three sons: David Carino (Donna) of Concord, OH, Lee Carino (Barbara) of New Franklin, OH, and James Carino (Janice) of Simpsonville, SC; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren: and by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents Zita was preceded in death by her brothers: Harold Leithner, Clarence Leithner, Simon Leithner, and Edward Leithner; her sisters: Rita Uhl, Edna Salter, Agnes Tellman, and Grace Shelly.
Zita was a member of the Sacred Heart Church. She was dedicated to her faith, family, and community. She volunteered her time at the hospital and the voting polls. She loved to watch her sons play ball and liked to play bridge and bowl.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2022 with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
