Hugh Carpenter Obituary

Hugh Carpenter
July 26, 1954 - October 7, 2022
La Jolla On Friday, October 7th the world lost the nicest, most joyful, fun, kind, loving, hot, AMAZING man, and Heaven got it's BEST Angel. After a super brave, upbeat fight against cancer the Lord called His incredible servant Hughie to Heaven. His wife, Allison, never left his side and was kissing him saying, "I love you forever!... I adore the ground you walk on!... You are the most amazing man in the world" until he took his last breath on earth in their home in Point Loma.

Hugh was born in 1954 to Ann & Harry Carpenter and lived in Manhattan Beach. He played lots of sports- baseball, basketball, golf, and tennis. He started surfing at 11, and the rest, as they say, is history! In 1963 the family moved to Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, and he graduated from Rolling Hills High School in 1972. His parents wanted him to go to CAL, but he wanted to go to SDSU so he could surf as well. In 1986 he married Allison (Pollock) who absolutely adored him from the first second she met him. Then he changed occupations and worked as a caulker for Nielsen Construction Co. working on large commercial buildings. He would often be "hanging" from the side of the tallest buildings downtown.
His beloved parents, Ann & Harry both had Alzheimer's, so he had to quit working to care for them each day full time. Hugh would drive Allison to work early each day at La Jolla Elementary, where she taught Kindergarten, so they would have more time together. Since their relationship started, he always shared Allison's vision that school should be a joy, where every child feels loved every minute of every day! They wanted the kids to be able to hardly wait to get to school each day!...That the kids would have high level academics to meet each child's highest potential, but be having so much fun they didn't realize how much they were learning! The children loved "Mr Hugh"! He gave hugs to everyone who walked through the kindergarten gate. Every time he walked in the class the kids would be ecstatic because he brings FUN with him everywhere he goes!

The 4 things Hugh would want us all to do are: Love one another, Love God, say "I Love You" to more people, Give more hugs and smiles to everyone. Hugh infinitely loved and is survived by numerous family & friends all of whom he loved so dearly!! He wasn't well enough to celebrate his birthday this year, so a Hughie birthday party/celebration of him will be on Friday, October 28th at 4:00pm @ Southwestern Yacht Club-2702 Qualtrough St.

It was our family´s privilege and blessing to have had both our son and daughter attend kindergarten in Ms. Allison's K2. Mr. Hugh was the most affectionate, dedicated, kindhearted, and generous school volunteer ever! He taught us all so much, while he set an incredible example providing countless acts of goodwill and service to our community daily. He smiled and hugged his way into all of our hearts - a place he´ll stay forever. We will always remember, and continue to be inspired by, his charming positivity, enthusiasm and LOVE! Thank you, Mr. Hugh and Ms. Allison. We love you!!

I worked at the Brig in Point Loma with Allison for 10 years in the 70’s and 80’s and we quickly became close friends. When Hugh came into Allison’s life that girl became whole. Never have I met a couple that were so perfectly matched. They both exuded love and life. It is rare to find the perfect match in a partner, but they found each other. You will be missed Hugh Carpenter. Rest in love Hugh.

Hugh and I have been friends since the third grade. His infectious smile, caring and selfless generosity were who he was from the time I first met him till the day he passed. Hugh was supercharged with that selfless love for others when he met and married Allison. They found the simple secret to a good life, love with all your heart. Together they exemplified that life secret. Beautiful man beautiful couple! Wonderful family and awesome long lasting friendships.

Allison and Hugh in Cottage H at the Hermosa Hotel in Avalon on Catalina Island. The days/weeks that you were on the island were magic. The two of you were Avalon's rays of sunshine and seeing you in position at your spot at Step Beach was the highlight of every summer. You both immediately went DEEEEEP into my heart - I loved you from the first moments I met you. So loving, so generous, so inspiring... and so totally in love with each other. It's impossible to imagine he's gone, and my heart aches for you. I'm grateful for your faith and trust in God, which I believe will help through this hard season. We know EXACTLY where that angel-man of yours is... and how glorious to know without doubt that you will be together again. But for these days ahead... my prayers and love surround you, sweet friend. You are SO loved... xoxoxo

Allison, I am so sorry about Hugh, and know the pain you are feeling, everyone greaves their own way, and everyone has a different time frame for their grief. I know you have a wonderful family, and they will help you through this period of hardship. Hugh was a wonderful man and he will be missed dearly. I wish you much strength to endure this.
