Herman passed away peacefully in his home while watching the evening news. He was surrounded by family and his most faithful caregiver and friend, Cris Villegas.
He was born in Berlin, Germany and raised in a small town, Esslingen. At the age of 12, WWII had reached his town and his youth was not an easy one. He is survived by one younger brother (Winfried) and one younger sister (Marie Louise) He is also survived by a son and a daughter (Diane Bauer), three granddaughters (Danielle, Marika, and Karenna.) After WWII, Herman completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He and his late wife, Emmy Amanda, moved to Toronto, Canada to pursue his career. He never missed an opportunity to tell his story of how he and Emmy came to Canada with one suitcase and $15.00 between the two of them. "We ate Chef Boyardee every night until we had enough saved for a proper dinner."
Two years later they moved to the United States, became citizens, and he opened his own business. After much success, he sold his business and began his new career in Property Development. Herman was still actively working until the day he passed away. Herman was driven to provide for his family and to give them the best possible life. He had connections all over the world and travel was a huge part of his life. He was clever, artistic, intelligent, and was sweet and caring when Emmy became ill. Herman participated in tennis, scuba diving, snow skiing, and working out at Park Point Club in Sonoma. He was also a pilot and passionate about flying his small planes. These were just a few of the activities that brought him joy. He will be truly missed. A private service will be held.
