James Haver Obituary

James Andrew Haver
September 21, 1938 - March 16, 2025
Sadly, the family of Jim Haver announce his passing on March 16, 2025. Husband, Dad, Pappy, Coach, Veteran, Cyclist, Adventurer, Hardest Working Man in Sonoma Valley, and Good Friend. Jim wore many hats throughout his lifetime and gave his all to each one. Along with his wife of 60 years, Rosemary, Jim chose to raise his three children, Christopher, Stephannie, and Steven, in Sonoma Valley. He and Rosemary enjoyed watching their children and six grandchildren grow and thrive.
Jim was born September 21, 1938, in Anadarko, OK, and moved to Sonoma at age two. He graduated from Sonoma High School, attended Santa Rosa Junior College, but then heard the call of travel. He left Sonoma to explore the last frontier. While in Alaska, he worked on the early phases of the Alaska Pipeline and the Aleutian Islands Aircraft Control Center and Early Warning System. Eventually, Uncle Sam interrupted his travels, and he was drafted into the Army, becoming a Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division. He had very fond memories of his time in the military, particularly peacekeeping in Oxford, Mississippi, during desegregation and intense preparation for the invasion of Cuba during the Missile Crisis.
In his retirement years, along with traveling the world with Rosemary, he became an avid cyclist, riding throughout the Valley. His favorite rides were in The Knolls, Oakmont, and Lovall Valley. Jim enjoyed riding his recumbent bike with the USA flag flying high. He also enjoyed many years of coaching football at Justin Siena and Sonoma Valley High School.
A Celebration of Life is planned this fall at the Veterans Cemetery.

I´m sad to hear of this great man´s passing! Mr. Haver was one of my favorite parents in Sonoma of my sweet friend, Stephannie. He was always so kind to us while we were growing up. We had many a fun swim parties, as Mr. & Mrs. Haver very patiently watched over us girls, as we played and socialized. He was very kind and attentive and I know his family loved him dearly for he was such a special Person to all who loved and knew him. May Mr. Haver rest in peace. May your family remember all of your memories w/ him and bring you joy!
