Marianne Eleanor McDonald was born and raised in San Francisco by her parents William McDonald and Margaret Alice Stump McDonald. She attended St. Gabriel Elementary and Mercy High schools. Then on to Mary's Help College of Nursing, graduating and passing her RN Boards in 1960. In 1962 she married George Paul, who survives her, and moved to San Carlos. They had four children; the older two born in San Francisco, at Mary's Help Hospital, where Marianne worked, and the younger two born in Redwood City at Sequoia Hospital, where Marianne would work later on. All the children survive her: Elena Shea (Tom), Colleen Paul-Assab (Kareem), Dennis Paul (Joanne), and Margaret Noe (Jim). Marianne is also survived by six grandchildren.
Marianne enjoyed many happy years in San Carlos, volunteering at schools and performing in the Chickens' Ball with the M&Ms. In 1995, after retirement from Sequoia Hospital, George and Marianne moved to Sonoma. Marianne became involved with SOS, Ramekin's Cooking School, St. Leo's Catholic Church and the Valley of the Moon Garden Club. She enjoyed an active social life with her close friends from The City (especially the Mercy Girls), her many friends in the Bay Area and new friends met in Sonoma. In 2013 Marianne was diagnosed with MCI, likely Alzheimer's Disease, and by 2017 she was in a care home where she lived until her passing. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers that have helped Marianne and her family, especially those at Sonoma Oak Tree Home and By the Bay Health.
