Nickoline Casciani Obituary

Nickoline (Nicky) Casciani
September 12, 1920 - March 8, 2025
Nickoline (Nicky) Casciani passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, in Santa Rosa, California. She was born on September 12, 1920, in Crosby, Minnesota, to Henry Schmidt and Agnes Olson.
During World War II, Nicky proudly served in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), working at the Pentagon for General John H. Hilldring. At the end of the war, she was transferred to Berlin, where she paraphrased messages for generals and served as secretary to the Allied Control Council, which oversaw Germany's postwar governance.
Upon returning to Camp Beale, she met her future husband, Robert Casciani. They married in 1946 and settled in San Francisco, where Nicky pursued a career as a legal secretary before becoming a medical secretary at San Francisco General Hospital.
Nicky cherished her time at her weekend home in Sonoma. Upon retirement, she made Sonoma her permanent residence and became an active volunteer at Faith Lutheran Church, dedicating herself to numerous outreach programs that served those in need.
She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, especially her beloved family: her four children, John Casciani (Cheryl), Christine Casciani, Paul Casciani, and Nancy Casciani Bieri (Tom); six grandchildren, Chrissy (Mark), Jenny (Dave), Bob (Niecole), Eva, Nicki, Daniel; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
