William Robert "Bill" Redder
February 27, 1942 - October 1, 2023
Bill Redder passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2023, after a brief illness.
He was born in Albany, NY to William and Jayne Redder Sr., and was an only child. He was born right after Pearl Harbor. His father enlisted in the Navy and was in the South Pacific theater for three years.
When Bill was a teenager his parents moved to Riverside, Ca. when he was a freshman in high school. He played football at Riverside High and after graduation he attended San Diego State University where he also played football.
Bill worked for Bennet Bower Food Brokers on military bases in Vietnam and also lived in Tiawan during the Vietnam years.
Bill moved to Marin County in the 1970's, attending San Francisco State University, majoring in political science and history.
In 1976 Bill met Donna Iverson, an RN at Sonoma Valley Hospital and they married August 27, 1978, and had no children.
Bill became a friend of "Bill and Dr. Bob" after completing a twenty-eight day program at St. Helena Hospital in August of 1981. Bill was inspired to help others and enrolled in classes at Sonoma State University and received his primary and secondary teaching credentials. He substitute taught in the Sonoma School District for several years, coached Freshman football and assisted with Junior Varsity football.
Bill applied and was accepted for a position at St. Helena Hospital Drug and Alcohol Unit as a counselor. He worked his way up to charge positions, Marketing Director, and Unit Manager. At that time Bill wanted to operate a facility and with partner Lee Hamilton they were able to purchase Mountain Vista Farms Recovery Center. They made improvements to the facility, obtaining CARF certification and other licenses. Bill excelled at Marketing and Finance, and Lee was excellent with clinical skills.
Bill was baptized into the Sonoma Seventh Day Adventist Church on his sixty-fifth birthday. He was a Sabbath School teacher, Elder, on the Finance Committee and Church Board, worked with Church summer garden, and was active in the Food Bank.
Bill is survived by his ex-wife of forty-two years, Donna Shute of Topsham, Maine.
Memorial Celebration of Life to be held at Sonoma Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 20575 Broadway, Sonoma, on Sunday, October 29, 2023, between 3 and 6 p.m.

Bill is and will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
