Dorothy Menominee Obituary

Dorothy Jane Menominee willfully answered God's call to join her husband Roland into eternal peace on September 28, 2017. By the grace of the lord, Dorothy was born in Bay Mills December 10, 1930.
Dorothy married Roland Walter Menominee and had 5 girls and two boys who love her immensely. Dorothy had many talents and abilities. She was an avid swimmer in the cold waters of Lake Superior and often swam out of sight of others only to return to friends waiting on shore.
"Dort" was a loving wife and mother, a green thumb gardener, a respected camper, an accurate markswoman, a hard worker, an amazing seamstress, a superb cook, a strong listener, a troubleshooter, and an organizer to name a few.
Dorothy worked at the Department of Social Services for many years teaching area residents cooking, sewing, and crafts earning her a special place in the hearts of many needy and disadvantaged EUP residents. These residents learned skills that would benefit their families for generations and the students learned that social services did not necessarily mean a helping check in the mail. The skills and knowledge that Dorothy provided would lead to more than one person to pursue higher education or simply inquiring how the families could get a job like this to help others.
Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband Roland; daughters: Suzanne, Doris Mae; son: Roland Jr.; parents: John and Isabella Bowen; brothers: John, Albert, Henry T., Leo, Jimmy, and sister, Florence.
Dorothy is survived by her son, David (Kim) Menominee; daughters: Mary (Tom) Sauro, Kathleen, Yvonne (Kurt) Yacuone; grandchildren: Raelene, Ryan, Jamie, and DJ; great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Jordin; brothers: George, Robert, and Douglass.
Visitation will be held 9-11 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2017 at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 30, at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church with Brother John Hascall as Celebrant. Burial will be in Mission Hill Cemetery.

Dorothy and I started at social Services on the same day. She was a wonderful person. So good to all. And what a cook. Loved those pasties. Merrie Nelson
