Ferdinand Jay "Fritz" Postma

1925 - 2018

Ferdinand Jay "Fritz" Postma, age 92, of Rudyard, Michigan, died May 13, 2018, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He was born June 28, 1925, in Rudyard, to John C. and Anna (Kamper) Postma.
Fritz was a lifelong resident of Rudyard. During his long working career, he farmed, worked at Union Carbide in Sault Ste. Marie, and worked for a tile setting business. He also worked as custodian at Citizen's State Bank in Rudyard and at the Rudyard Coop Credit Union. He retired in 1992 and he and his wife, Stella traveled extensively, visiting Hawaii, California, Maine, Utah, and Wyoming. Many of their travels were in a camper.
Fritz was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Rudyard. He enjoyed time outdoors, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and cutting wood. He was an avid reader and during his mother's lifetime, he wrote a letter to her every Sunday. Fritz was also an avid Detroit Tiger fan.
Fritz is survived by his wife, Stella Postma, whom he married August 1, 1950; children, Joanne (Tom) Kamper of Traverse City, Michigan, John (Donna) Postma of Jennison, Michigan, Marsha (Mel) Cooke of Williamsburg, Michigan, Debra McDonald of Rudyard, and Paul (Annette) Postma of Rudyard; fifteen grandchildren, Jeff (Michelle) Kamper, Mark (Jenn) Kamper, Noah (Liz) Kamper, Karrie (Matt) Mazerik, Dan (Krystle) Postma, Alissa (Matt) Jourdan, Rob (Anne) Cooke, Clay (Cherie) Cooke, Ken (Jami) Cooke, Michelle McDonald, Marcy (James Langerak) McDonald, Monica (Josh McClure) McDonald, Jason (Shauna) McDonald, Nick (Jamie Schlagel) Postma, and Shayla (James) Leigh; 37 great grandchildren, Collin, Zach, Mackenzie, Megan, Leah, Forrest, Elliot, Quinn, Lucia, Katie, Aria, Miriam, Jaren, Kamden, Kaison, Jaren B., Jaxon, River, Carter, Kristinaha, Oliver, Harrison, Bob, Jack, Holly, Silas, Andrew, Ethan, Charlotte, Audrey, Jaylynn, Owen, Myles, Taylor (Brittany), Elijah, Adley, and Dylan; and great great grandchild, Adyan. He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard (Adele) Postma, Floyd (Ruth) Postma, Willard (Corlyn) Postma, Sherman (Angie) Postma, and Carol (Jim) Koetje, all of the Grand Rapids area, and Floyd VanSloten of Rudyard.
Fritz was preceded in death by twin great grandchildren, Jordyn and Jeresy; brothers, Clifford, Almer, and Ray Postma; sister, Gertrude Paap; brothers-in-law, John Postma and Paul Postma; and sisters-in-law, Ethel Wagner and Jo VanSloten.
Services will be held Saturday, May 19, at Rudyard Christian Reformed Church, 17970 S. Tilson Rd. in Rudyard. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. followed by the funeral service at 2:00 P.M. Grandsons Mark Kamper and Noah Kamper will conduct the service.
Burial will be in North Rudyard Township Cemetery.
