James Shepherd "Jim" Parrish III

1934 - 2019

James (Jim) Shepherd Parrish III, of Hulbert, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 5, 2019 while receiving short-term rehabilitation care at the Medilodge of Sault Ste. Marie.
He is survived by his children James, Donald, Denise, and Scott and their families; his brother Charles; and his special friend Betty Osterhout.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Mary Ann Moisio; his sister Sally Ann Hager and his parents James and Eva.
Jim was born in Cook County Illinois on February 15, 1934. He attended school in Hulbert through the 9th grade and was a 1952 graduate of Woodberry Forest School, Virginia. While at Woodberry he ran cross country and track and also excelled in riflery. Upon graduating from Woodberry, he studied engineering at the University of Virginia before joining the U.S. Army in 1955. While in the service he specialized in aircraft intelligence and artillery. Upon his honorable discharge in 1957 he returned to Hulbert to work for the family business; the J. Shepherd Parrish Co. In 1963 he joined Montgomery Ward and held several positions, including management of district operations and distribution, during his 25 year career. In retirement he returned home to Hulbert and was an active community volunteer and an active member and Past Master of McMillan Lodge 400 F&A Masons.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 2 p.m. at the Beaulieu Funeral Home in Newberry with visitation from 12-2 p.m. Interment will take place in the spring.
