Anne Moon Obituary

May 20, 1929 - Aug. 21, 2010
BUCHANAN - Anne Consuela (Rossiter) "Connie" Moon, beloved wife and mother of seven, died on August 21, 2010, at Holy Cross Village (Notre Dame, Indiana) after a long illness. Connie Rossiter was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 20, 1929, to journalist Daniel P. Rossiter and his wife, Anne (nee Rock). There were no other children; Daniel Rossiter died soon after his daughter's birth, and his widow brought her daughter Connie back to the family home in Ludlow, Vermont. There, Connie grew up - as she put it - "the only child in a family of adults." Connie attended Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts, where she earned a degree in marketing. She also met her future husband, William F. "Bill" Moon, who was studying engineering and mathematics at nearby MIT. They married after graduation, on September 3, 1951, in Ludlow, Vermont. The Moons and their seven children settled in Buchanan in 1970. When Connie's youngest child went to school, Connie went to work as Home-School Coordinator for Moccasin Elementary School in Buchanan, a job she kept and loved for 10 years. Connie Moon became an avid tennis player in her 40s, and an active member of the Niles Racquet Club. She also gave her time to three local charitable organizations: Redbud Area Ministries, Meals On Wheels and the Juvenile Justice Task Force. She and her husband and children belonged to the parish of Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in Buchanan. During her later years, Connie and her husband spent the winter months on Hilton Head Island in sunny South Carolina, and the summer months at their home on the beautiful Saint Joseph River in Buchanan. Connie Moon was a gracious, humorous woman, who loved people, books and conversation, making new friends wherever she went until her final days. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, and her seven children, Anne (husband Mike) Vosburg of Los Angeles, California, Mary (Molly B.) Moon of South Bend, Indiana, Elizabeth (Liza) Moon (husband Don Corthier) of Buchanan, Michigan, Michael R. Moon of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Margaret (Maggie) Moon (husband Dr. Tom Kirsch) of Baltimore, Maryland, Carol (Cary) Moon of Seattle, Washington, and Martha (Murphy) Moon (husband Rob Reed) of Los Angeles, California; and her five grandchildren and one great-grandson. A memorial gathering in honor of her life will be held at Swem Chapel in Buchanan, Michigan, on Friday, August 27, at 10:30 in the morning until 1:00 in the afternoon. Bill and Connie were our Hilton Head neighbors for almost 15 years. We have shared many wonderful times together; golfing, going out to eat and enjoying the sunsets over the inter-coastal at each of our homes. Connie was a warm and beautiful lady and she will be missed. Our deepest condolences go to your entire family. Doug and Sue Kampfer,

I did not know Connie well personally, but through my friendship with her daughter Molly I know Connie was a beautiful, intelligent, nurturing woman who dedicated her life to serving her family and community. Be at peace,
