Carolyn Yahle Obituary

Jan. 4, 1934 - June 25, 2012
MISHAWAKA - Carolyn Angie Brothers Yahle, 78 years old, of Mishawaka, formerly of Edwardsburg and Niles, passed to her rest on June 25, 2012 at Center for Hospice Care, South Bend, after an illness. Carolyn was born on Jan. 4, 1934 in Chicago, the daughter of Charles F. and Angela (Blazewicz) Schmidt. She was the third Caucasian woman in history to be adopted by the Miami Indian Tribe, in the 1960s. She moved to the Niles area and worked in accounting for the Harger CPA Office, and formerly worked for Berrien County Health Department, in Drug Abuse, in Benton Harbor and Niles. She was married to William George Yahle, who has passed. Others who have preceded her in death are her parents and granddaughter, Amanda Toothman. Surviving are her three daughters, Theresa Brothers of Mishawaka, Viki Brothers of Portland, Maine and Patti Cox and her husband Bob of Clinton, IN, as well as grandchildren, Molly Brothers, Adrienne Stauffer and Lawrence Toothman; sister, Mary Jorgenson of Ft. Pierce, FL; brother, Charles Schmidt of Morton Grove, IL; cousin, Dorothy Skronski of Edwardsburg; and very best friends, Mary Bretschneider of Edwardsburg and Pat Stephens of St. Joseph, MI. Carolyn made her arrangements years ago, and she donated her body to Medical Science at Indiana University, Indianapolis. Memorial donations may be made to either Cass County or Berrien County, MI Cancer Services. Arrangements are by Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg.
