SOUTH BEND - Creasie L. Blake-White was born on July 15, 1940, in Oxford, Mississippi, to Louise (Owens) Blake and the late Hartie Blake Sr. She attended Washington High School where she was the first African American cheerleader and the first African American to receive the DAR award. She graduated in 1959 and went to nursing school in Chicago. She received her LPN and went to work at the former Cook County Hospital. She later worked for the Professional Nurses Bureau and also worked as a private duty nurse. On June 3, 1961, in Chicago, she married Ulysses White; they had three children. Creasie devoted her life to Christ and later joined Straford Memorial Seventh Day Adventist Church where she sang in the choir and worked as the Vacation Bible School leader. She passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017, in Chicago.

Creasie leaves to cherish her loving memory her mother Louise of South Bend; her husband of 55 years, Ulysses of Chicago; 2 daughters, Christel White-Lobbins of Jackson, TN, and Lisa White; one son, William (Veronica) White; a stepson, Darryl (Lily) White, all of Chicago; a stepdaughter, Deidre (Willie) Wilson of Denmark, TN; 14 grandchildren; nine sisters, Varner Johnson of Memphis, TN, Emmer Caldwell of South Holland, IL, Bernice Freeman, Gladys (Al) Muhammad Ward, all of South Bend, Bessie Dickson of Gary, IN, Dorine Blake-Smith of Fort Wayne, IN, Sharon (Calvin) Macon, Jessie (John) Whitaker, Forestine (A.D.) Jackson; six brothers, Bemis Blake, Hardie (Perl) Blake, David (Ruth) Blake, all of South Bend, Fred Blake of Hawaii, Walter Blake of Indianapolis, IN, and Robert Blake of West Hollywood, CA; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with her father, she was also preceded in death by one sister, Louise Blake Lewis; and two brothers-in-law, Ellis Caldwell and Herbie Smith. Services were held in Chicago.
