Dale E. McColley

SOUTH BEND - Dale Eugene McColley, 90, of South Bend, died Saturday, September 24th in Hospice House of South Bend following an illness. Mr. McColley was born November 28, 1925 in South Bend to the late Lois J. (Johnston) and Clifford E. McColley and was a lifetime area resident. On February 14, 1953 in South Bend at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church he married Rosemary A. Herczeg who preceded him in death on March 17, 2015. He was also preceded in death by a son, Kevin M. McColley and his sister, Virginia L. (Podell) Bryan. He is survived by a daughter, Nancy A. Moreland (David) of South Bend; two sons, David B. McColley (Cheryl) and Thomas P. McColley both of South Bend; four grandchildren, Bryan Bush, Ryan McColley, Lindsay McColley, and Michael P. Moreland; and one great-granddaughter, Harper Bush.

Dale was a proud graduate of South Bend Central High School and Indiana University. He also served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was Vice-President of Operations at Tucker Freight Lines for 30 years and then was President of C & E Trucking Corporation for 7 years. He then served as the Director of Transportation for the South Bend Community School Corporation from which he retired. He was a member of the South Bend Kiwanis Club, South Bend Transportation Club, Northern Indiana Motor Truck Association, member and President of the Indiana Motor Truck Association, and member of Indiana University Alumni Association and was instrumental in starting the St. Joseph County Chapter of the Indiana University Alumni Association. He was a past member of Morris Park Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf. Among his many accomplishments, he was the former Indiana state champion in singles table tennis.

Dale will be remembered for his love of Indiana University. He last visited the campus in 2013 stopping by the Well House, Memorial Union, and Nick's English Hut. He loved IU sports along with the Chicago Cubs. Dale enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, liked listening to big band and Christmas music and loved vacations with family.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center along with the caring staff at the Center for Hospice Care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 29th in St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami St. Cremation will follow. The family will receive friends in the cathedral on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.

My father is someone I respect and care for...Someone I can look up to...My father is there if I need him...He is kind, thoughtful, and generous...My father is my friend...Someone who can do the impossible...My father is someone I love.
I found this in a drawer. I wrote it when I was 12. These words are still true.

I am sorry I am finding out of Dale's passing after the service. Dale allowed me to take a job at Tucker freight, which allowed me to pay for college expenses. To Nancy, Dave and Tom my condolences, your Dad was a super guy.
