Danny made every section he ever played with sound better because of his presence. Those of us who were lucky enough to have played with him were blessed, and in the moment, every one of us in one way or another knew it.
Danny was a lion in the lead chair. Away from the section I found him to be a sensitive, introspective, and tender individual. He will be missed both by those of us who knew him, and the world which treasured his music. So long, Danny.

Danny was the epitome of the professional, a wonderful and highly accomplished musician I was fortunate enough to play with on many occasions over the years. His contributions to the Chicago music scene are legendary and he will be missed!

I remember Danny from all the way back at Christ the King school. His musicianship was evident even then, and by high school he was a pro. I can't say we were friends or even acquaintances, but I always admired him from afar. My thoughts go out to Kathy.

I remember Danny as a congenial guy who was so easy to talk to, and liked seeing you when you ran into each other. His playing was superb and just got better as time went by. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. My condolences to Danny's family. "Gabriel, Blow Your Horn"

I have such wonderful memories of Danny! I remember sitting in a bar watching him play in a quartet and actually playing TWO trumpets at once!! There is also a story about a beer keg and Juday Creek that makes me laugh. I still have a tape of Danny playing "I can't get started" that is sublime. Danny will be missed.

I'll always think of Danny and his amazing playing and pointedly funny sense of humor. Not to mention his love of hot peppers so strong they could melt through steel! My deepest condolences to the Barber family. (Here's one of my favorite pictures of him, playing with us at the 1980 Chicago Jazz Festival.)

Danny was a great Trumpet player...he and Maurie Mahon drove down Darden Road in Swanson Highlands so my Mom (she was Greek) could hear Zorba the Greek while Danny played that whole song on our street. He and I were at Adams High School for our band sessions where Danny and I worked on musical renditions ...Danny with his trumpet and me with my Clarinet. Mr. Lovin talked to us one day regarding Danny and I playing our instruments in the Circus at Notre Dame...so the three of us were the ones who were playing our instruments. Danny had a wonderful repertoire and of course, the whole family loved music! We had fun in High School and beyond. You will be greatly missed, Danny. Now you are looking forward to a great opportunity Danny, my friend and hopefully you will see your children and parents up there in Heaven. You are so loved, kiddo!
