Ernest “Skip” Niemier

July 28, 1943 - July 28, 2016

OSCEOLA - Ernest “Skip” B. Niemier, age 73, of Osceola passed away on July 28, 2016 at 3:45 PM at St. Joseph Health System of Mishawaka, IN. He was born July 28, 1943 to Ernest B. and Annis Niemier, Sr. in South Bend, Indiana. On October 18, 2008, Ernest married Diane Miller. Skip was a 1963 Central High School graduate and went on to trade school to be a pipefitter. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army. He retired after 32 years from Honeywell. Skip was a member of the Plumbers Pipefitter Union, the Elks Club in Benton Harbor, MI, and the St. Joseph Isle Association. He enjoyed golf, football, boating, and anything nautical. Ernest is survived by his wife, Diane of Osceola; his children, Richard Hess, Scott Niemier and Evan Niemier; Goddaughter, Melissa Kroll; his mother, Annis Niemier; a sister, Carolyn Kroll; an aunt, Geraldine Czeck, and 35 cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest B. Niemier, Sr. The family would like to thank the staff at Michiana Hematology Oncology in Mishawaka and the staff at St. Joseph Health Systems for the kind and compassionate care they extended to Ernest. There will be a time of visitation on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are directed to Pet Refuge, 4626 South Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614. we are all sad for your loss. Skip will live on in stories and laughs, and the great effect he had on so many people. he threw a big wake whether he was on the boat or cruising thru a crowd. proud to have been able to call him a friend and neighbor.
