GRANGER - Glen "Butch" Lamar Rummel Jr., 64, of Granger, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, September 1, 2011, after a long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Glen was born to the late Glen Sr. and Nina (Gilbert) Rummel on September 27, 1946, in Goshen, IN. Surviving family members left to cherish Glen's memory are his wife, Catherine (Daniels) Rummel of Granger, whom he married on August 19, 1979, in Havre de Grace, MD; his son, Jason (Cheryl) Rummel of Marietta, GA; daughter, Lisa Rummel of South Bend; son, SSgt. Daniel (Jennifer) Rummel, USMC, of Kokomo, IN; son and daughter, William and Nicole Carmon of Granger; his two sisters, Carol (Don) Bowman of Granger and Nancy (Tom) Holsinger of Butler, GA; two brothers, Jerry (Jean) Rummel of Goshen, IN, and Kerry (Deb) Rummel of Bristol, IN. Also surviving are Glen's four grandchildren: Alesia Rummel, Aiden Rummel, Hudson Carmon and Juliet Carmon. Glen was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and retired from the U.S. Army in 1986 after 20 years of service. Following his retirement from the military he owned and operated two Dixie Cream Donut Shops in Mishawaka on LWW and on Johnson Street in Elkhart until he sold them in 2007. After that he was worked in management at the Family Dollar on Edison Road in South Bend. Glen was also a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Chapter 2, Elkhart. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 6, from 3-5 pm and 6-8 pm at McGann Hay Funerals | Cremations | Gatherings, Granger Chapel, located at 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Road). A Military Honors Service will take place at 7:00 pm. Cremation will be at the American Cremation Society, South Bend. Donations may be made in Glen's memory to The ALS Association, Development Department, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 250, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301; or to The Wounded Warriors, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517. I am so blessed that I got to know Glen. He was my boss and the best boss you could ever ask for. He cared about his employees and took the time to get to know us. He is a wonderful man. You will be deeply missed.

I am Thankful I got to visit with Glen last summer during our trip to the midwest. Ronald v Smorynski CW 2 retired.
