OSCEOLA - Helen M. Contat, 94, of Heather Lake Drive, Osceola, passed away at Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa, following an illness. She was born July 14, 1917, in Mishawaka, to Bruno and Anna (Meier) Kobold, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Dennis (Annette) Contat of Osceola and Joann (Steve) Shaffer of Rochester, Indiana. Also surviving are her sisters, Edna Biesbrook of Mishawaka, Bernice Kerrn of Osceola, Margaret "Peg" Finney of Elkhart and Louise Finney of Terre Haute, Indiana. Four grandchildren, Kelly Jenkins, Marty (Sabrina) Prater, Jessica (Jeff) Petermann and Kristalynn Contat. Four step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive, along with 11 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Elnor Schnitzer. Helen was employed by Prudential Insurance as an office clerk for 23 years until her retirement. Helen was an avid quilter whose passion was creating these works of art for the enjoyment of her friends and family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka. Friends will be received from 4 until 8 pm on Friday in the funeral chapel, and also one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Burial will follow the services at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Indiana. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association. The family would also like to thank Connie Nease for the loving care provided to Helen during her illness.
