James Brown Obituary

April 20, 1928 - Jan. 19, 2009
OSCEOLA - James "Jim" Carroll Brown, 80, of Osceola, passed away at his residence at 2:10 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2009. Jim was born on April 30, 1928, in Henry County, IN, to the late Charles M. and Gladys (Finch) Brown. On June 6, 1948, he married Esther Rupley. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Esther of Osceola; three sons, Larry (Elizabeth) Brown of Bloomington, Eric (Deborah) Brown of South Bend and Kim (Mari) Brown of Boca Raton, FL; and one daughter, Peggy (Douglas Sr.) Burggraf of Osceola; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one step-grandchild and one on the way He was preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers, Larry and Charles Jr. He worked for Miles Laboratory for 27 years as chemist and superintendent before retiring in 1989. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, Elkhart. While living in Richmond, IN, where he taught school, he painted houses in the summer and belonged to the Painters Union. He also was a member of the American Legion Band in Richmond. He was a volunteer for many activities including Meals on Wheels, tutoring children in reading, and was a Red Coat at Elkhart General Hospital for over six years. Visitation will be from 4 -8 p.m. Friday, January 24, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, in the funeral home, with Rev. Pam Kling officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
