BELDING, MI - Jeremy Michael Smith, 37, formerly of South Bend, died unexpectedly March 8, 2016. He was born March 7, 1979, in South Bend.
Left to cherish his memory are three children, Nadya, Wyatt and Bentley; his father, Michael (Dorinda) Smith; mother, Linda Willing; sister, Jessica Peaden; half siblings, Stephanie Smith and Michael Scheibelhut; and step-siblings, Sheldon Cross, Mellissa Baker and Theresa Hardy.
Jeremy graduated from John Adams High School, obtained his bachelor's degree from Saginaw Valley State University, and was studying at American Military University for a Master's degree in Criminal Justice. He was a true Notre Dame fan, even while living in Belding, MI. He was a highly respected veteran, having served a tour in Iraq. He helped and guided many friends both from college and in his career as a corrections officer. He was loved and respected by so many and will be greatly missed.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Hey brother, not a day goes by that I don't miss you. This weekend is that golf tournament we played in last year and had so much fun at. Remember you won all those door prizes. Lol. Hope you are feeling no pain. You take care of things up there, and I'll handle stuff down here. Look forward until we see each other again. Love ya brother!

You know how much I love you. You know how proud I was when you graduated from college, when you chose to fight for your country. you know how proud I am that you loved Nadya and the boys with all your heart. You pulled through so many crises for you, your family, your in-laws, your friends. It is a sadness losing you that will forever change my life. There are no words to be able to properly express the deepest love that I had for you. Our minds were so alike. Our dreams and goals mirrored one another even when we did not share them with each other. Losing you, leaves me with an odd and empty space. As there is nothing that could ever take your place, I only know to push on and have your good name honored in each and every way that you deserve. You were a great man and leader. We are sorry for your loss. We only knew Jeremy thru his sister, Jessica, who is our daughter-in-law. She talked so highly of him. Although hearts are broken, take some comfort in that he was loved by many.

You were my role model from day one daddy from being a vet i knew i was going to serve just like you and follow in the footsteps you have by that you have taught me that im a smith im your blood we can do what we set our minds to no matter the struggle or the heartache i will be the dedicated marine i told i was going to be because of you and for you daddy i will live the life you have taken so soon and shocking to all of us you were a great dad and know my hope is you shall look after me while i protect like you once did and to heal and help as i was told at your funeral about how many times you proved yourself to everyone in your life like you use to say i love you to the moon my angel i love you to the stars daddy and every night we still share those same stars ill always remember to look at the stars when i need you i hope your looking down to make sure i marry a man that treated woman just liked you did i love you to the stars stay peaceful daddy we will always have you with us

I am very sorry for your loss. Jeremy will always hold a special place in my heart. I miss our conversations and his humor, he could always make me laugh. I will never forget when I was on third shift and Jeremy was on second shift, and I hit a deer on my way to work. It demolished my vehicle, and smoke was pouring out of it. It was the middle of winter, and it was dark and cold, and I was in the middle of the country. It seemed like I blinked and Jeremy pulled up. He left work early so that I could have a warm vehicle to sit in while I waited for the wrecker, police, and my husband. He was there for me during a moment that I felt so alone. We spoke before he passed away, and I hope that I was able to comfort him the same way he did me on that dark winter night. If I could tell Jeremy one more thing it's that punching in for work is not the same without you sniffing my head, I miss you buddy.

Although we actually only met a handful of times, it felt like we knew each other forever, your an amazing and caring man. A warrior poet, and a amazing father. upon meeting you I knew you were a man of great moral character. This is the way you will always be remembered to me.
