John R. “Yonch” Juan

June 8, 1947 - July 3, 2019

MISHAWAKA, IN - John Robert Juan, 72, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, after a courageous battle with cancer.

John was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 8, 1947, as the only son of Robert and Clara “Elise” (Haezebrouck) Juan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his Aunt Margaret Hillaert and his cousin, Darlene Hillaert; and cousins, Steven and Madeline June of Canada.

In 1958 when John was 11 years old, he and his parents moved to Mishawaka.

After graduation in 1965 from Mishawaka High School, John volunteered for the service joining the United States Air Force. He served from 1965 to 1969 including a tour in Vietnam.

Upon returning home he went to work for the former Torrington Corporation in South Bend as a Machinist for 20 years. He then worked for Bayer Corporation until his retirement.

On September 20, 1980, in Christ the King Lutheran Church, South Bend, John married Janis Crook who survives. John is also survived by his cousins, Marlene Hillaert and Albert Hillaert, and children Trent and Todd; Victor Hillaert and children Victor and Jason, and Marc and Scott Hamlin; brother-in-law, Jim (Cindy) Crook; and sister-in-law, Geni (Mike) Dial. He is also survived by his family in Canada: cousins Mike and Angel Legary and daughter, Samantha, Mike June and children, Brandon and Colin; and Cecil June and daughter, Madison. He is also survived by his canine companion, Hannah.

John was a motorcycle enthusiast riding Harley Davidsons for 45 years. He was among the first to join ABATE and was a member for almost 40 years. He was also a member of VFW Post 360 and the BK Club.

John never met a stranger. His joyous spirit will live on in the hearts of family, acquaintances, and many lifelong friends who knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed.

Family and friends may visit on Monday, July 8 from 3:00 - 7:00 pm in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral Services will follow at 7:00 pm with Military Rites. Cremation will take place afterward, with burial in Fairview Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Tom and Brian Memorial Fund, 200 North Church Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544 or to Heartland Hospice, 230 West Catalpa, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
