John Verhamme Obituary

MISHAWAKA - John A. Verhamme, 82, passed away at home on Friday, October 28th. John was born on November 27, 1928, in Mishawaka, to Edward and Erma (Gillis) Verhamme. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Irene Cokewood, Elsie Verhamme, Evelyn Persyn, MaryLou Jacob and Marion Rusinek; a brother, Leon Verhamme; and a son, Thomas Verhamme. On September 7, 1951, in South Bend, he married the former Waneta "Edie" Wamsley. Surviving are his wife, Edie; four children, Philip (Kathy) Verhamme of Granger, William Verhamme of Indianapolis, IN, Edward (Judy) Verhamme of Mishawaka and Linda (Vernon) Hubbard of Indianapolis, IN; and eight grandchildren, Brittany, Morgan, Andrew, Matthew, John, Brendan, Christian and Nathan. John worked in Experimental Electric Fabrication at Bendix, retiring in 1991 after 42 1/2 years of employment. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. John was also a member of the BK Club, American Legion #160 and VFW Post #360. Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 1st, from 10:00 to 12:00 in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, where funeral services will be held at 12:00. The Rev. Kevin Bauman will officiate and burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
