SOUTH BEND - Kathleen Sylvia (Atherton) Colpitts, 73, of South Bend died at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31st in her residence. Mrs. Colpitts was born August 21, 1942 in South Bend to the late Josephine (Simon) and LeRoy Atherton and was a lifetime area resident. She is survived by her daughter, Dennise “Sissy” Wigent of South Bend; three sons, Brett Wigent and Daniel Oles (Kim) both of South Bend and Nelson Oles (Cheryl) of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Daniel Oles, Jr., Kristin Trethewey, and Caleb and Ethan Oles; three great-grandchildren, Kayleeanna and Jordan Oles and Logan King; and her siblings, LeRoy Atherton (Loretta), Sharon Wallis and William Atherton (Toni) all of South Bend and Thomas Atherton (Sue) of Mishawaka.

Kathleen, aka Kathy, graduated from South Bend Central High School in 1960. She was employed as a nurse at Memorial Hospital, the St. Joseph County Jail and retired from the Juvenile Justice Center.

In the past Kathy made donations to the Police and Firefighters Association, Breast Cancer Society, ASPCA, and WNIT. She had many interests including, books and reading, railroad trains and collectibles, Antiques Road Show, camping, cross stitch, crossword puzzles and games on the computer. Some of her favorite things included red roses, Cardinals, the color lavender, Manatees, and her dog, Suchin. Kathy used to say that all she ever wanted was a fireplace. Her wish came true when she purchased a new home two years ago.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, April 8th at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, South Bend with Pastor Bob Moore of Calvary Chapel officiating. Burial will follow. Contributions may be made to the family to help with expenses. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
