Larry Elkins Obituary

Larry Lee Elkins

April 19, 1939 - Dec. 10, 2018

ELKHART, IN - Larry Lee (Pete) Elkins, 79, passed away December 10 at his home in Elkhart, Indiana.

Larry was born in Tippecanoe, Indiana, on April 19, 1939, to Ralph of Hammond Lake County, Indiana and Bonnie Lee (Smith) Elkins of Persia, Tennessee.

Larry is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Stanford) Elkins; stepson, Mike Stanford; step-grandson, Zach Stanford; three daughters, Marlena Marie Elkins of Elkhart, Indiana, Lora Lee (Mark) Pullin of Granger, Indiana, and Sherry Lynn Fielder of Niles, Michigan; two sons, Larry Brett Elkins of Manassas, Virginia and Anthony Shawn (Laurel) Elkins of Cassopolis, Michigan; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a nephew and several nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Leandria Sue Elkins; two sisters, Barbara (Maurice) Van Nevel and Rebecca Sue (Ollie) Johnson; two brothers, Harold F. and Michael; former wife, Sandra Lee Perkins Elkins Vires; and great-grandson, Bryce Anthony Elkins-Davis.

Larry retired in 2002 while employed at Voyager, a steel and aluminum fabrication company located in Elkhart, Indiana, as a machine tool and die setter while partnering with a machine operator who was his daughter, Marlena Marie Elkins. Larry had several talents and hobbies but one in particular was the love of playing the guitar. As a young man he learned to play the guitar and during family social settings he would play his guitar and sing country songs - he had an exceptional singing voice. He also raised Black and Tan Coonhounds for several years and was an avid fisherman. His love of family was deep-seated and unconditional.

An intimate viewing was held at his residence on December, 10, 2018 shortly after his passing. A remembrance of his life will be held in the spring of 2019 on his birthday, April 19, in Tippecanoe, Indiana. You may send condolences to the family of Larry Lee Elkins at 25507 Sunset Avenue, Elkhart, IN 46514.
